When students choose their own groups, friends stick together and someone is always left out. A random split is faster and nobody feels short-changed.
Steps
- Open Team Generator and paste your names, one per line.
- Enter the number of teams, from 2 to 20.
- Press “Make teams”. Press it again if you want a different split.
- Press “Copy result” and paste it into the class chat.
When the class does not divide evenly
The tool shuffles the whole list and deals the names out one at a time. Team sizes therefore differ by one person at most. With 32 students in 5 teams you get two teams of 7 and three teams of 6.
When you want a fixed team size
Divide the class size by the team size you want and round the result.
| Class size | About per team | Number of teams |
|---|---|---|
| 30 | 5 | 6 |
| 36 | 4 | 9 |
| 42 | 6 | 7 |
| 45 | 4 | 11 |
Classroom tips
- After making teams, use the Wheel to choose which team presents first.
